this is a sudoku puzzle game. it has most of the features you would expect from a sudoku game. it generates puzzles, provides hints (if required), allows you to note potential answers next to a cell, set the difficulty level, and make the computer solve the puzzle.

what is sudoku ...

sudoku, sometimes spelled Su Doku, is a logic based puzzle. The aim of the puzzle is to enter a digit from 1-9 in each of the cells in a 9x9 grid made up of subgrids of 3x3 cells (called "regions"). To solve a puzzle, each row, column and region must contain only one instance of each numeral, 1-9. You start the puzzle with only some of the cells completed. You have to fill in the rest.

the interface ...

this is the Su-per-Doku interface:

key ...

yellow ring:

this button creates a new puzzle;
this button will solve the puzzle for you;
this button will give you a drop down menu to set the difficulty level. beware, if you set a difficulty level, a new puzzle will be loaded;
this button will toggle hints on and off. with hints on, when you enter a number into a cell, the theme will turn it blue if it's correct. with hints off, the entered number will remain red, whether it's correct or not;
this button toggles the display of missing or incorrect entries. because you have to press ENTER to set a cell's number, sometimes you may forget this (although it should be clear, given that unentered numbers will be green). if you get to the end of a puzzle, but the theme doesn't say that it's solved, you can press this button to see which cells aren't set properly, or are incorrect. the highlighted cells will have a red square around them.

blue ring:

this area shows the difficulty level of the current puzzle.

green ring:

this area shows status messages. it tells you what's going on with the puzzle, as you go.

red ring:

this is where the notes for each cell are displayed. sometimes, you know that a cell may contain a number, but aren't absolutely sure. you can put the number in the cell, and press 'n', and instead of setting that cell to that number, the number will be displayed above the cell. if you press 'c' when you have selected a cell, it will clear the notes for that cell.

entering numbers in a cell ...

click on a cell, and you should get a cursor. enter a numeral. it will be green - this means that the number is not yet entered into the puzzle. if you press ENTER, the number will be entered and will turn red. you can also enter the number as a note, rather than as the answer for the particular cell (see "notes ..." below). The puzzle will only be solved once all correct numbers are entered - so if you still have geen numbers in the puzzle, you will have to press ENTER in those cells to solve the puzzle.

notes ...

sometimes when you're trying to solve a puzzle, you want to note the possible numbers that can go in a particular cell. in su-per-doku, you can note a possible candidate above a cell by entering that number in the cell, and instead of pressing ENTER, press 'n'. To clear the notes for a particular cell, click on that cell and press 'c'.

saved games ...

su-per-doku saves the game everytime you make a move. so if you close the game, or turn off your computer, the next time you start su-per-doku, your last game will be restored to the exact state it was in when you left it.
